It’s a bumper – but rather rude – selection this month. We’ve got some ironically naughty beat poetry, filthy rap and aggressively rude metal, mixed in with the usual eclectic selection. There’s also more than a little hat-tip to the 90s – a decade whose comeback seems about as inevitable as death, taxes and the demise of the Liberal Democrats.
If you’ve got any requests for the next show, bung them in the comments below or on the Podbean page.
Arcade Fire – The Month of May
Mark Ronson and The Business feat Q-Tip – Bang Bang Bang
The Shadow Orchestra will be emerging from the studio in May, blinking in the sunlight, for a couple of gigs. We’re playing at Simple Things in Bristol on 1st May (AMAZING lineup, don’t miss it!) and at the WahWah45s night at Favela Chic in London on 5th May – come and get some caipirinhas down your neck and dance the night away.
In this month’s podcast we bring you a world exclusive – no, not the new Radiohead album (although we’ve got a track off that too) but the first outing of a new work in progress from the Shadow Orchestra, fresh out of the mixing desk.
We’re still hard at work in the studio finishing up our album so in the meantime please enjoy our rag-bag selection of tracks, from 90s dance classics to an epic bebop jazz workout. Thanks to everyone who sent in requests. We’ve managed to get a couple in – the rest either fell victim to Kat’s temperamental broadband or were vetoed…
Also we’re introducing a new feature – solo of the month, celebrating the lost art of the instrumental solo. Leave your suggestions for future candidates (and any other requests) in the comments below.
Anna Calvi – Suzanne and I
School of Seven Bells – Babelonia
Shoes – Stay The Same (Isolee remix)
Pop Will Eat Itself – 92.F (The 3rd Degree)
The Fuzztones – 1 2 5 (request from Ricky Fabulous of Belleruche)
Harry’s Gym – Attic
The Beatles – Good Morning Good Morning (Solo of the month)
Gonjasufi – She Gone
Liz Green – I Do Wrong
Tunng – Hustle (request from Fran in Argentina – hi Fran!)
Radiohead – Bloom
Vision of Trees – Sometimes it Kills
Shadow Orchestra – Direct Out (work in progress mix)
Love is in the air! Or, at least, it is if you believe the rampant commercial machine that drives the Valentine’s Day industry. This month we’re jumping on the romantic bandwagon and picking lovesongs and songs we love, from loved-up dance tunes to bitter ballads. Grab a box of tissues and put your headphones on…
Apologies for the delay – we lost Mary north of the border and had to wait for her to be dried out and shipped back. This month’s podcast is worth the wait though, being packed full of tunes that we discovered in 2010 ranging from shouty thrash-pop to glorious glitchy electronica.
Next month we’ll be doing love songs – not the cheesy ones, but songs we fell in love with (or to!). If you’ve got a suggestion for a track leave it in the comments below or on the Podbean page, along with a little story about why and we’ll play the best suggestions in the February show.
