Workshops, training and coaching

Kat offers science communication, science writing, podcasting, storytelling and media training for anyone who has to tell complex research-based stories to the public.

She has run science communication training, media training and other workshops at Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer’s Society, the Association of Medical Research Charities, the Royal Society and more, and has more than a decade of experience as a trainer.

Examples of  workshops include:

  • Telling stories about science –  an interactive workshop exploring what makes a good science story, how to find and tell them, and how you can use stories to help your organisation build engagement and interest. Are you sitting comfortably? Then we’ll begin…
  • Old media, New media and ‘You media’ – an interactive workshop looking at news values and the changing media landscape, narrative structure, crafting messages,  finding your ‘wow!’, and responding to media enquiries.
  • Giving great interviews – drawing on Kat’s 15 years of unique experience as a broadcaster and media spokesperson, this interactive workshop reveals how to give confident expert interviews about complex or tricky topics.

Other workshops cover science writing/blogging; podcasting; presenting skills; jargon-busting; or a bespoke combination depending on organisational or personal needs.
